The Metro Nashville Police Department has apprehended 23-year-old Rivaldo Sis-Tobar in connection with the fatal shooting that unfolded outside a South Nashville bar earlier this month. In a report provided by WSMV, Sis-Tobar was arrested by TITANS Unit detectives on Wednesday, facing homicide charges after the untimely death of 21-year-old Jose Lopez-Rivas on Dec. 3, outside the Nashville Hookah Bar located on Woodbine Street.
Community members stepped forward to assist detectives in identifying Sis-Tobar as the shooter, and Jose's brother, 20-year-old Edgar Lopez, was also detained last week. He was charged with tampering with evidence and providing false statements to law enforcement officers. His involvement became clear through video evidence indicating he helped Sis-Tobar relocate the body and search through the deceased's pockets, although the full nature of Edgar's involvement is still under investigation. Edgar's actions following the incident have introduced new dimensions to this case.
According to a news release mentioned by WKRN, witnesses recounted that Lopez-Rivas was waiting for a friend when an argument broke out between him and an unidentified individual, which escalated until a single gunshot wound to the chest led to Lopez-Rivas’ demise, his subsequent death was confirmed at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Sis-Tobar's bond stands at $11,000, but a clause for mandatory DNA testing precludes his release at the current time.
Details from FOX17 indicate that after the incident, detectives were tipped off by community members, which played a pivotal role in the capture of Sis-Tobar. Meanwhile, Edgar Lopez, who was also present during the fatal encounter, currently faces his own legal challenges.
