A luxury consignment store in Barrington suffered a rapid burglary over the weekend, with thieves taking nearly the entire inventory of high-end goods. The store, Restyle Design, situated at 121 S. Cook St., was the target of a group of masked individuals who plundered the boutique in a calculated operation that lasted slightly more than a minute, as revealed by surveillance video shared on social media and reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
The store, which lists luxury items such a Louis Vuitton bag priced at nearly $4,000 and a Chanel ring for $650, was left in utter disarray following the early Sunday heist. "Early this morning, our store was burglarized and nearly all of our inventory was stolen, years of hard work and trust gone in seconds," Restyle Design lamented in a statement on social media. In a response to the incident, Barrington Police Department has yet to offer public comment on the matter.
According to WGN-TV, the owners of Restyle Design describe the devastating incident as a significant setback, with about 85 percent of their inventory pilfered by the thieves. The owners shared their heartfelt dismay on social media, stating, "Our hearts are broken. We are devastated, but we are not giving up. This store has always been about the community, and our clients and consignors are more than customers, you are our family."
Despite the setback, the outpouring of support from the community has been immediate and robust. Customers and locals have offered resources ranging from assisting in store clean-up to expressions of interest in helping to replenish the boutique's stock. "Thank you for standing with us during this heartbreaking time," the store expressed its gratitude toward their community in the aftermath of the break-in. Meanwhile, additional security measures are reportedly being implemented by the boutique's proprietors to prevent future incidents of this nature.
