Miami authorities spent the morning addressing a security concern at the Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. U.S. Courthouse, where a suspicious package was discovered. The Miami Police, taking no chances, promptly called in the bomb squad after a courthouse security officer noticed the unattended package, reported first by NBC6. The area surrounding 400 N. Miami Avenue was cordoned off, affecting traffic on North Miami Avenue and Northwest First Avenue between Third and Fifth streets.
Details on the package's contents have yet, to be made public, as the investigation continues. However, inside the courthouse, a different kind of anticipation was felt as the jury deliberated in the much-publicized defamation trial involving rapper Megan Thee Stallion and blogger Milagro Cooper, known as Milagro Gramz, as noted by Local10. The rapper is taking legal action against Cooper for allegedly promulgating defamatory statements through an AI-generated deepfake video, which reportedly incited online attacks against her.
As the building was put on alert, local authorities asked the public and drivers to avoid the area to facilitate the ongoing police activity. This security measure impacted regular courthouse operations briefly and added another layer of tension to the ongoing trial within its walls.
