This morning, the unexpected occurred at Zoo Miami, leading to the attraction's closure and evacuations due to a reported bomb threat. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office was swift to act, although they believed the threat was likely a hoax. Without hesitation, the sheriff's office ordered employees and visitors to evacuate the premises as a precaution. NBC Miami reported on the initial closure, detailing the steps taken by authorities to ensure public safety.
Zoo Miami communicated through social media to alert the public to the unforeseeable situation, initially withholding detailed information while they assessed the threat. In a statement they later released, they said, "Zoo Miami is currently closed due to an unforeseen circumstance. We will provide updates as soon as we can." They assured the public that there was no immediate threat and that safety was the utmost priority. The statement also explained the intention of the security sweep, which was expected to be a several-hour process, and promised to delay the zoo's opening for the day.

Further developments were covered by 7News, which provided aerial views from 7Skyforce and reported on the presence of Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office and Fire Rescue units on the scene. Bomb-sniffing dogs were requested by the zoo to thoroughly check the premises. As authorities conducted the sweep, the sheriff's office completed their inspection without discovering anything suspicious, and thankfully, no injuries arose from the incident.
Zoo officials were proactive in keeping the public informed, posting updates to social media. "We received a potential threat that's believed to be a hoax. Out of caution, staff were evacuated & a sweep is underway. We will have a delayed opening. There is no immediate threat to the public. Safety remains our priority, and you will be notified once we are cleared to open," read their statement, as obtained by 7News. Once the all-clear was given, the zoo was expected to visibly communicate their reopening to the public.
