In what might be the most charming bit of civic engagement this holiday season, Boone County has unveiled a new community-focused competition—the Boone County Government Christmas Wreath Contest. Until December 12 at 4:00 p.m., locals can feast their eyes on the holiday handiwork of seven local government agencies, each vying for the most votes from the public. Visitors are invited to swing by the first floor of the historic Boone County Courthouse to make their selections, according to a recent announcement.
Democracy, it seems, is alive and well, with a festive twist. Voting is enabled via Venmo or the old-fashioned way—with cash—with every dollar cast as a vote and contributing to a good cause. The winning agency will not only get bragging rights but also enjoys a pizza or donut party courtesy of Boone County Clerk Lisa Bruder, the brain behind this holiday initiative. All proceeds from voting go directly to the Boone County "Shop with a Cop" program, ensuring youngsters in need also welcome the season with a reason to smile.
But the contest isn't just about holly and jolly competition; it's wrapped up with a bow of goodwill. After the contest wraps up, all wreaths will be raffled off, and the raffle proceeds will benefit another noble cause—the Child Advocacy Center, which supports vulnerable children in the Boone County community. This additional layer of community support tallies with the season's giving spirit.
"This is a chance for the public to join in some holiday fun while supporting programs that make a real difference for Boone County families," Clerk Bruder was quoted saying in the contest's press release on the Boone County website.
