After nearly five decades in law enforcement, the Bronx will see the retirement of one of its longest-serving public servants. The Bronx District Attorney's office announced that Frank J. Chiara has decided to retire, ending a career that began in 1978. Chiara spent 47 years in the Bronx DA's office, serving under four different district attorneys.
Clark stated that Frank Chiara began his career in the Bronx DA’s Office on July 3, 1978. She highlighted his role in supporting prosecutions and upholding accountability. Throughout his career, Chiara’s work has contributed to the administration of justice in the Bronx and provided guidance to investigators and staff members who worked with him.
Frank Chiara began his career as a detective investigator and advanced through several positions, including Lieutenant and Deputy Chief, before being appointed Chief of Detective Investigators in April 2010. In this role, he oversaw a team responsible for conducting investigations, protecting witnesses, extraditing offenders, and collecting evidence for prosecutions. Under his leadership, the Bronx DA’s Investigative Unit was recognized as a highly effective division within law enforcement.
During his career, Chiara worked on several notable cases, including a 1988 investigation into an illegal gun-running operation that resulted in the recovery of 150 guns. He also led a three-year narcotics operation on Valentine Avenue that resulted in the arrest of 53 individuals and the seizure of drugs and assets valued at approximately $2 million. Chiara has since retired from the Bronx DA’s Office.
Originally from Queens and now residing in Long Island, Frank Chiara has been active in community volunteer work, which he plans to continue in retirement. His career included contributions to the Bronx DA’s investigative unit and involvement in numerous cases handled by the office.
