As the new year rolls in, families with young children in the Canyons District might want to perk up their ears, especially if they've got preschool or kindergarten-age kids. According to Canyons District News, the district's early-learning open houses are back. Set to familiarize parents with preschool and kindergarten options, the District is ready to open its doors once again with a series of open houses designed to unpuzzle the early education journey for eager families.
The series of open houses proffers information on the Canyons District's programs, rated among the best. Starting January 14 and running through February 27, 2026, the district is accepting applications for its tuition-based preschool, and enrollment will begin for prospective kindergarten students. The events aim at answering questions and providing insight into the district’s educational offerings, including child-initiated and hands-on learning. "Parents are free to come whichever event is most convenient for them. We view this as an opportunity for parents to ask questions and learn about our early childhood philosophy, child-initiated and hands-on learning, and research-based curriculum," Leigh Ann Fisher, an instructional coach specializing in kindergarten, told Canyons District News.
The Canyons District will host the open houses at six different elementary schools throughout January. These fixtures are not only for the Canyons District households to get their bearings as to where their tots might roam come fall, but also to grasp the logistics of enrolling, eligibility, and what to expect in terms of learning milestones. The schedule is as follows: Alta View Elementary on Jan. 7, Glacier Hills Elementary on Jan. 8, Midvalley Elementary on Jan. 9, Sprucewood Elementary on Jan. 13, Oakdale Elementary on Jan. 14, and Crescent Elementary on Jan. 21. All sessions commence at 6 p.m., save for the Midvalley Elementary event, which begins at 3 p.m.
The open houses will feature vendor tables for parents to explore for the first 30 minutes, after which a presentation and a Q&A session will ensue. The district makes it a point to guide parents through the different facets of early education, ranging from vaccination requirements to the choice between full-day or half-day kindergarten. Attendees will be equipped with "tips and resources to help parents prepare their child for that first day of school," and as an added bonus, "we’ll send parents home with some learning enrichments, and a free pencil case and coloring book," Stephanie Petersen, Early Childhood Program Administrator, told Canyons District News.
