High school sophomores and juniors in the Canyons district have a fresh opportunity to get ahead with new programs at the Canyons Technical Education Center (CTEC), which aim to shape the workforce of tomorrow with skills for today’s demanding job market. According to Canyons District, CTEC's curriculum now includes an "Intro to Artificial Intelligence" course and a "Medical Scholars" program that are set to launch in spring 2026.
These courses are more than mere additions to the catalog; they represent gateways to burgeoning fields where job prospects continue to skyrocket. The new AI course will demystify the complexities of one of the most transformative technologies shaping our world. Similarly, the Medical Scholars course, which is a partnership with Weber State University, offers not only classroom learning but also hands-on experience at two local hospitals. For students keen on diving into these areas, the application period for the 2026-2027 school year starts January 9, 2026, bright and early at 7 a.m.
For those uncertain about what CTEC offers, an Open House event is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 8, from 4-7 p.m. at 825 E. 9085 South in Sandy. Here, prospective students can engage one-on-one with industry-trained instructors and deliberate over their future academic and career paths. As highlighted by the aforementioned courses, CTEC's programs span a wide range from business, cybersecurity, and health sciences to more hands-on trades like automotive technology and construction.
