The City of Carmel has allocated nearly $1.38 million to 27 local organizations through its 2026 Arts Grants Program. Over the past 22 years, Carmel has invested almost $20 million in the arts to boost the local economy and enhance the quality of life.
Mayor Sue Finkam highlighted the arts investment as both a cultural and economic boost. "Through consistent, strategic investment in our arts institutions and organizations, we are fostering economic vitality and elevate Carmel's overall quality of life,” she said in a statement obtained by GovDelivery, noting the Advisory Commission on Art's role in guiding the grant process.
Carmel’s latest grants support a variety of performing and visual arts organizations, including the Actors Theater of Indiana, Carmel Symphony Orchestra, and Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre. Recipients will also receive free nonprofit management training from the Hamilton County Community Foundation.
The grants also support events like the Carmel International Arts Festival, held every September with over 100 artists. These investments reflect the city’s goal of building cultural infrastructure that entertains while attracting private investment and skilled workers.
