A 19-year-old Chicago man has been charged in the armed robbery of a young woman last month, authorities said. Giovanni Lopez, from the 3600 block of N. Octavia Ave, faces one felony count of armed robbery with a firearm.
According to a press release by the Chicago Police Department, Lopez was apprehended on the morning of December 7 by the Citywide Robbery Task Force. He was located in the same block of his residence, where the arrest took place without incident. The authorities said that Lopez was identified as a suspect in a robbery that occurred on November 6, in the 5100 block of W. 63rd Pl., where a 19-year-old female was robbed at gunpoint.
The incident, which took place last month in the 8th District, saw the victim lose personal property under the threat of a firearm, underscoring the ongoing challenges of street crime in the city. Lopez is scheduled for a detention hearing on December 8 at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California.
