Back by popular demand, Deering Estate's holiday offering "Imagining the Soundtrack of Charles Deering’s World" is serenading history and music buffs once again. The encore performance featuring Artist-in-Residence, Susana Behar, and her ensemble, taps into the echoing chambers of the past, bringing forth a repertoire that could very well have been the playlist of American industrialist Charles Deering's global escapades.
The show is a tightly knit fusion of geography and sound, designed to deeply thread together the varied cultures Deering would have encountered. Slated for Sunday, December 21, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Deering Estate Visitor Center Theater, the audience is primed to not just listen, but to acoustically travel through the storied landscapes of the Mediterranean, the Americas, and Europe – a journey the man himself made during the late 1800s and early 1900s. According to Miami-Dade County's announcement, Susana Behar leads this journey with a voice that's as much about conveying music as it is about storytelling.
Tickets are fetching $30 a pop, available online for anyone wanting to get in on this aural voyage. The act features talents like Michel Gonzalez on the guitar, Adolfo Herrera percussing away, Magela Herrera on the flute and vocals, and Elvis Martinez handling the bass. These musicians are no strangers to accolades and world stages, as detailed in the county's release.
"The concert, "Imagining the Soundtrack of Charles Deering’s World," invites visitors to travel alongside Deering through sound, discovering the connections between his global wanderings and the music of the peoples he encountered," the county's announcement read. The Deering Estate is set to host a holiday event celebrating both culture and music. During her career, Behar has performed at prestigious venues including the Kennedy Center in 2024 and the Library of Congress in 2025.
