As a cold front ushers in severe freezing temperatures across DeKalb County, officials have responded by opening several warming centers to provide refuge for those in need between December 29 and 31, according to a recent announcement. With the promise of 24-hour access, two of these vital community lifelines are Exchange Park Intergenerational Center in Decatur and Frontline Response International in Atlanta, both ready to receive residents looking to escape the frigid embrace of winter.
Additional locations, such as St. Vincent de Paul in Chamblee and the Mason Mill Recreation Center, will also open their doors, offering shelter and warmth. Residents can find solace in these havens during this harsh time of year. Officials indicated that Frontline Response International, at the core of this humanitarian response, will handle the mobilization of individuals from various pick-up points to ensure no one is left to endure the merciless winds and temperatures alone, as reported by the county's official website.
For those requiring transportation, the county has coordinated pickups starting from the Frontline Response Headquarters located at 2585 Gresham Rd SE, Atlanta. Initial pick-ups are slated for completion by 7:30 p.m., with final sweeps stretching from this hour until 10 p.m., concluding operations punctually, thus allowing individuals ample time to reach safety.
The pickup schedule has been meticulously planned to encompass the entirety of the area, spreading across four different routes that include key points such as the North DeKalb Senior Center, the East Lake MARTA Station, Candler Road MARTA, and intersections like Memorial Drive and Columbia Drive, to name a few.
Frontline Response International has been contracted by DeKalb County to ensure that residents facing hardships due to extreme weather conditions receive the help they need. Individuals are welcome to arrive directly at the Frontline HQ from 6:30 p.m. on Friday, and from there they will be assisted with warming center placement and other available services.
