El Paso Community College (EPCC) is celebrating the success of its Fire Technology Program, as students gear up for graduation and the state exam. Among the proud soon-to-be graduates is Francisco “Frank" Dominguez, who has found his purpose after initial uncertainty post-high school. He is now set to earn his Associate of Applied Science in Basic Firefighter, along with all required state certifications. EPCC News provides insight into Frank's journey, showcasing a story of determination and growth.

The rigorous program at EPCC involves extensive academic, hands-on firefighting, and life-saving training from Monday to Friday, with a schedule that stretches from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Amidst this demanding structure, Frank has emerged as a natural leader, taking responsibility for his class by coordinating drills and maintaining motivation. "You can't be here and go through the motions," Frank told EPCC News, emphasizing the dedication required to succeed in the program.

Instructors at EPCC have noted Frank's initiative and leadership qualities. Charlie Franco, EPCC Fire Technology Instructor and Assistant Coordinator, praised Frank's ability to lead by example, a vital trait in the field of firefighting. Julius Gutierrez, the program coordinator, also shared his pride in the class's achievements over the year. Frank and his classmates have had the opportunity to train alongside cadets from the El Paso Fire Department Academy, a testament to the caliber of training provided by the EPCC program.

EPCC will hold two commencement ceremonies on Friday, December 12, at the Don Haskins Center, with times slated for 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., as noted by EPCC News. The event marks not just the end of a challenging educational journey for these students, but also the beginning of their professional careers as firefighters, ready to serve their communities with the knowledge and skills they've acquired.
