A family in South Jordan was displaced from their home following a fire that engulfed their townhome early this morning. The South Jordan Fire Department was dispatched to the blaze at 11564 S. Watercourse Road in the Daybreak community just before 7 a.m., according to Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Lessner, as KUTV reported. The residents quickly called 911 upon discovering the fire and were safely evacuated with no injuries sustained.
Upon their expedient arrival, firefighters managed to extinguish the fire rapidly. The home in the four-unit building sustained heavy damage, but they were able to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent homes, as detailed in a media release from the South Jordan Fire Department. FOX 13 reported that multiple fire units were at the scene and confirmed that the fire originated in the garage.
While the occupants are out of immediate danger, their home is not habitable, and support is being coordinated with the American Red Cross to assist the affected family. The impact of the event continues to unfold, affecting their sense of security and place. The smoldering remains of what was once their domestic haven attest to the unpredictable nature of calamity, how it arrives uninvited and uproots the ordinary into the extraordinary, leaving nothing but silence and char in its wake.
The specific cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and an investigation is currently underway. In a statement obtained by ABC4, the South Jordan Fire Department revealed that upon arrival they were met with heavy smoke and flames, the intensity of the blaze evident even after it had been contained; thereafter they quickly managed to control and extinguish the fire, the cause of the fire is still under investigation and the department does not yet have further details to provide.
