The collision occurred around 2:30 a.m. near Grant Street, resulting in the death of the car's driver, according to FOX32 Chicago. The semi, which was transporting approximately 40,000 pounds of frozen food, overturned during the incident, leaving the truck driver unharmed.
Traffic was heavily impacted as the westbound lanes of the interstate were closed for several hours while the scene was investigated. Although lanes reopened by about 7:15 a.m., residual congestion extended as far back as Central Avenue to Grant Street, with additional traffic building up on northbound I-65 near the interchange. WGN-TV reported that the lanes were cleared for travel by 7:30 a.m.
