A collision on Bruckner Boulevard in the Bronx resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to four others. The crash involved a white sedan and two larger trucks, identified as a tractor-trailer and a box truck. According to the Gothamist, the incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. near the intersection of Bruckner and Sheridan boulevards in Hunts Point.
The sedan, identified as an Acura, was reportedly traveling eastbound near the Hunts Point Market when the collision occurred. ABC7NY reported that the vehicle struck both trucks, causing it to spin out of control and crash. The female driver was taken to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Emergency responders extricated three people from the damaged vehicle. The driver was transported to the hospital, where she later died. Her two passengers, a 29-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, were taken to Lincoln Hospital, with the woman listed in critical condition. The NYPD is in the process of notifying the driver’s family, and her name has not yet been released. The drivers of the trucks involved, both in stable condition, were also treated at Lincoln Hospital.
Authorities are investigating the sequence of events that led to the crash, which resulted in the temporary closure of eastbound Bruckner Boulevard. The tractor-trailer involved began leaking fuel after the collision, prompting a cleanup operation. Despite the incident, traffic fatalities in the Bronx have declined nearly 40% this year compared with last year, with NYPD data cited by the Gothamist reporting 30 deaths in more than 5,300 injury-involved collisions.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine how three vehicles collided on this section of Bruckner Boulevard. Families of those involved are awaiting information as authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
