
Tragedy struck yesterday morning in deep southern Miami-Dade County as a pedestrian lost his life after being hit by a vehicle. The Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed the incident occurred around 5:50 a.m. when a black Hyundai collided with the man as he crossed the northbound lanes on U.S. 1. The collision was fatal and led to the man's untimely death near Southwest 291 Street, Local 10 reported.
As a result of the investigation led by the Florida Highway Patrol, the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 were shut down for approximately four hours, creating significant disruptions for morning commuters. Lt. Alex Camacho, a spokesperson for FHP, while the investigation was underway, the road closure lasted till noon, as was announced after the incident.
On the same day, in a separate incident, traffic on Florida's Turnpike experienced major delays following a collision near Northwest 57th Avenue. As per NBC Miami, one individual was hospitalized with the severity of their injuries necessitating an airlift to a local hospital. The crash scene, heavily laden with debris, forced traffic into a bottleneck with just one lane available to the swarm of vehicles that afternoon.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was on the scene, and they managed to clear the way, but not without leaving the traffic snarled for hours. While the full details of the crash on the Turnpike are yet to be disclosed. NBC Miami further mentioned that crews were visible in aerial footage making efforts to clear the roadway and restore the flow of traffic.
