Yerba Madre, the long-running yerba mate brand with a serious Gen Z following, has packed up its Sonoma County base and headed for downtown Oakland, locking in roughly 16,719 square feet at the Tapscott Building in Uptown. The move plants the company’s corporate flag in Oakland’s growing creative-office cluster, brings its administrative and marketing teams closer to transit and the East Bay talent pool, and follows the company’s rebrand earlier this year from Guayakí to Yerba Madre.
Deal and staffing signals
The lease was struck through a Cushman & Wakefield-marketed deal that trade outlets report covers about 16,719 square feet at 1910 Broadway. According to The Registry, the agreement officially designates the Tapscott space as Yerba Madre’s new headquarters. The company’s job board on Greenhouse lists multiple Oakland-based roles, signaling plans to fill out that new office over the coming months.
Tapscott Building and Uptown location
The Tapscott Building at 1910 Broadway is a five-story office property dating back to 1920 that underwent a renovation in 2021 and now touts exposed brick, modern mechanical systems, and a rooftop deck. The LoopNet listing also leans on the building’s proximity to 19th Street BART, along with recent seismic and façade upgrades that help position the historic structure as a draw for creative and consumer-facing brands.
What the move means for Oakland
Industry watchers are filing this deal under Oakland’s slow-but-notable office comeback story. CoStar framed the latest activity as “new leases reflect Bay Area city’s gradual comeback on the heels of San Francisco,” and brokers say headquarters-sized commitments like this one help boost daytime foot traffic and add momentum for nearby retailers.
Yerba Madre's rebrand and roots
Earlier this year, the company formally announced its shift from Guayakí to Yerba Madre, highlighting an emphasis on regenerative sourcing and Indigenous partnerships in a company release covered by PR Newswire. At the same time, the brand’s careers page continues to list Sebastopol among its corporate locations while adding newly created Oakland positions to the mix, a detail reflected on the Yerba Madre Careers page.
Cushman & Wakefield brokers Elizabeth Bott and Grant Jones are named as contacts on industry materials tied to the Tapscott listing, with both trade coverage and the property’s marketing information identifying Cushman & Wakefield as the leasing firm on the building. Those same materials, including the property listing on LoopNet, underscore that Yerba Madre’s headquarters adds a sizable office tenant to Uptown as the neighborhood works to grow its daytime commercial base.
