The westbound State Road 84 at Miami Road, along with the Port Everglades Bypass Road, has reopened following an emergency water main repair. According to a local update, the closures impacted traffic significantly, but diligent overnight work from city crews has remedied the situation. The water main was repaired, and the intersection was made passable using a temporary fix involving a steel plate and asphalt, setting the stage for a more permanent solution expected to conclude on Wednesday, December 10.
Originally reported yesterday evening by the City of Fort Lauderdale, the rupture caused considerable disruptions, necessitating detours to SE 17th Street and the US 1 / Federal Highway. While driving through the neighborhood, drivers were urged to seek alternative routes and adhere to the detour signs to maintain safety.
The community was notably affected by the road closures, as the city’s infrastructure was laid bare by the sudden breakage. Swiftly addressing the concerns, the City of Fort Lauderdale issued a statement of appreciation, "We appreciate the patience of our neighbors during this emergency repair." Those with inquiries were directed to contact the city at 954-828-8000, ensuring that voices could be heard and questions addressed in the wake of the disruption.
