Travelers in Davie County should brace for some delays as overnight construction is on the horizon for a stretch of Interstate 40 East. The closure will take place starting from 11 p.m. today and will last until 6 a.m. the following morning, as per the N.C. Department of Transportation's announcement.

Eastbound motorists will be funneled off I-40 at Exit 174, redirected along Farmington Road to U.S. 158 and then to N.C. 801 before they can once again merge onto the interstate at Exit 180.

According to the NCDOT, this shutdown is for a purpose: to replace the bridge on Pinebrook School Road that spans across the great chasm of the interstate.

This closure will also lead to the temporary shutdown of the Davie County Rest Area at mile marker 177 for those heading east. Yet, even as paths shift and familiar ways are momentarily lost, it is but a small tribulation in the service of a stronger, more enduring network of roads.
