Hoosier communities are seeing a significant boost in infrastructure funding as over $2.1 million in state grants have been allocated to enhance local roads and bridges. The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, kick-started by a House Republican initiative in 2016, has paved the way for numerous projects focused on road repairs, bridge maintenance, and intersection upgrades, as reported by Indiana House Republicans.

State Rep. Matt Commons (R-Williamsport) praised the grants, saying they help communities maintain safe roads and bridges while supporting economic growth and quality of life. In the latest funding round, nearly 200 communities shared $100 million in state funding.

Among the recipients, Brookston received $468,936; Burnettsville, $357,757; Wolcott, $281,276; and White County, $1 million. State Rep. Kendell Culp (R-Rensselaer) explained that smaller communities must provide a 20% local match, while larger ones are required to contribute 50% to receive the funding.

According to the Indiana House Republicans, underlining the importance of these infrastructure developments, Culp said, "As the Crossroads of America, it is important that we continue to improve and expand our roadways. These grants are a great tool for communities to tackle much needed infrastructure updates to meet growing needs." The program's design ensures that annually half of the available matching funds go to communities in less populous counties—those numbering 50,000 residents or fewer.

Since its launch, the Community Crossings program has invested more than $2 billion in local infrastructure. A full list of grant recipients and program details is available online.
