In recent local crime news, a Joliet man named Devan Sheard is facing charges for making threats against a Westmont Porsche warehouse, while an unrelated string of burglaries targeting laundromats on Chicago's West Side has left the community concerned, according to recent statements and reports from the DuPage County State's Attorney and the Chicago Police Department, respectively.
Sheard, a 32-year-old former employee, allegedly posted a YouTube video in which he threatened to plant improvised explosive devices in vehicles at the Napleton Porsche warehouse; the DuPage County State’s Attorney and Westmont Chief of Police reported that the unsettling video led to Sheard's pre-trial detention order by Judge Anthony Coco, the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office disclosed.
Meanwhile, burglars have struck three family-owned laundromats in Humboldt Park and Logan Square, with the first incident occurring on Christmas Eve and the most recent just after 3 a.m. at Aqua Clean Laundry, where suspects were caught on camera amidst the sound of alarms; said suspects are accused of stealing money and causing considerable damage, "I'm very sad because I come here to do laundry and then to hear these events happening, especially in this area, it's uncalled for and it's heartbreaking, very heartbreaking," longtime customer Lupe Cabanas told WGN-TV in an interview.
Authorities have yet to announce any arrests in the laundromat burglaries have urged business owners to secure their premises and reminded the public to report any related information to the Area Five detectives at 312-746-7394 or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTIP.com; as for the Porsche warehouse threat, Sheard's next court appearance is scheduled for January 26, 2026, "in front of Judge Daniel Guerin," says the DuPage County announcement, while also assuring readers that charges are not evidence of guilt, with a defendant presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
