Two people are in custody, and authorities are searching for a third following a series of car thefts and armed robberies in Memphis, local news outlets report.

According to WREG, the crimes began early on Sunday, when a black 2013 Chrysler 300 was stolen while the owner was warming it up outside the Sleep Inn motel. Over the next day, the suspects committed at least two armed robberies. One victim outside the Gold Club said the armed men demanded all his money, claiming they had seen him withdraw cash from a bank, and took $70.

Police efforts led to a car chase with the stolen vehicle on December 8, culminating in the apprehension of two suspects after the chase ended in the 1800 block of Wells Station. Despite capturing two of those involved, the authorities' work remains unfinished, as Action News 5 indicates a third suspect lives at large, and the search continues with intensity.

After a car was stolen from the Sleep Inn, broken glass was left behind at the scene, according to local Memphis reports. Residents like Joy Anderson say they are taking extra precautions. ‘During this time, I stay inside. There’s a certain time I may come out, but I just try to stay safe,’ she said.

Memphis Police are asking anyone with information to come forward. CrimeStoppers can be reached at 901-528-CASH. Surveillance footage from a nearby restaurant has helped investigators link the crimes, all involving a stolen Chrysler 300. Authorities continue searching for the third suspect.
