For the second year in a row, this facility has been recognized as one of the greenest in Florida and ranked seventh in North America by the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA). This accolade is a testament to the city's dedication to eco-friendly operations. "Miami Beach sets the national standard for how modern cities operate efficiently,” Mayor Steven Meiner commented, according to the city's official statement.
NAFA's Green Garage Contest is no small-time affair; it draws together the most environmentally conscious fleets across the continent to put their best practices on display, showcasing everything from the implementation of solar rooftop panels to waste oil heating systems. In harmony with these efforts, Miami Beach has been named to NAFA’s 100 Best Fleets in the Americas for three consecutive years. “I’m so very proud of our Fleet Management Division, a team of dedicated professionals who work hard every day, not only to keep our fleet running but to do so in a way that is environmentally responsible," Commissioner Monica Matteo-Salinas told Miami Beach News.
The city’s fleet is substantial, with the Facilities and Fleet Management Department being responsible for nearly 1,500 vehicles and other equipment. One of the city's most ambitious environmental goals was met recently – converting half of the entire municipal fleet to a mix of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric vehicles – a significant step forward in Miami Beach's green journey.
Recognition by the NAFA 100 Best Fleets program is based on a rigorous set of criteria that includes accountability, collaboration and doing it right the first time. The breadth of competition for this recognition is immense, pitting Miami Beach against the 38,000 public fleets all over North America. With such wide-scale metrics in place, Miami Beach’s achievements in sustainability are marked out as an extraordinary success story in public service efficiency and environmental responsibility. The next round of winners will be unveiled in spring 2026.
