As the New Year begins, Miami-Dade residents can expect business as usual from the Department of Solid Waste Management. As announced by Miami-Dade County, trash and recycling collection will continue on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2026, with no service interruptions. Despite the holiday, scheduled pickups will proceed as normal, ensuring waste and recyclables are collected without delay.
While trash and recycling collection will continue, the Department of Solid Waste Management’s administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, January 1, according to the same county announcement. Residents needing to conduct administrative business are advised to plan ahead. Meanwhile, disposal facilities will remain open, with Trash and Recycling Centers and Home Chemical Collection Centers operating on regular holiday hours.
Curbside collection will not be the only service operating through the holiday. WM, Inc.’s Medley Landfill will also follow an adjusted schedule for the New Year. The landfill will close early at 2 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, December 31, before reopening on January 1 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Department of Solid Waste Management outlined the schedule and advises residents seeking additional details to contact the 311 Contact Center or visit the department’s website for confirmation.
