An Uber Eats driver found himself on the wrong side of the law after being accused of swiping packages from a Miami apartment building where he had just made a food delivery. Samuel Lee Robertson, 36, was arrested after surveillance footage showed him allegedly lifting several parcels that were left unattended near an elevator on December 5 at an address on SW 18th Terrace, a report by WSVN detailed.
According to the same report, Robertson was seen by cameras from Vintage Liquors, owned by Anthony Barrios who described the incident to 7News saying, “He sees some packages there. He decides, ‘Oh, why not get himself an early Christmas gift?” but the act was far from a festive jape, for it concerned real presents intended for loved ones. Following the alleged theft, exterior cameras caught Robertson stashing the packages in his vehicle before driving away, leading to his apprehension by police, who charged him with grand theft among other offenses.
Further adding to Robertson's woes, another incident last Friday, near Southwest 3rd Avenue, just shy of Interstate 95, showed him again engaging in an apparently similar modus operandi. After delivering food, Robertson was allegedly captured on video taking packages worth $917 belonging to a victim, containing merchandise from the brand Alo, as NBC Miami reports.
The cumulative evidence of his alleged spree led the police to track down and stop the red Hyundai connected to both cases and consequently arrest Robertson, who, when confronted with the accusations of his involvement in the thefts, chose to remain silent and asked for legal counsel, this driver's run-in with the law also included driving with a suspended license (knowingly), which was discovered during the arrest. He's now facing multiple charges including grand theft in the third degree and remains held on a $2,500 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
