Officers responded around midnight to reports of shots fired in the 6600 block of South Stewart Avenue, where they found the man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to UChicago Medicine in critical condition, according to police.

Investigators said the victim and another person were arguing when the confrontation turned physical. During the struggle, a gun was produced, and the 39-year-old was shot.
