
An MJPD officer responding to a welfare check in a PetSmart parking lot discovered that the man needed help and was also in violation of the law.
A 36-year-old Murfreesboro man was spotted slumped over his steering wheel, prompting a call from a passerby. When officers arrived, they found illicit substances and learned he had an outstanding probation violation warrant from Rutherford County, according to the Mt. Juliet Police social media post.
This evening, an MJPD officer responded to a welfare check for a man seen slumped over the wheel in the PetSmart parking lot. The 36-year-old man from Murfreesboro was found to have an outstanding warrant out of Rutherford County for a probation violation.

During the investigation, the officer found suspected meth, heroin, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. What began as a welfare check quickly turned into a criminal investigation, with MJPD addressing multiple violations of the law.
The man faces DUI and multiple drug-related charges. In a social media post, MJPD thanked vigilant community members for alerting them and praised officers for quickly resolving a potentially dangerous situation.
