The Metropolitan Action Commission (MAC) in Nashville recently held its 35th Annual Workforce Development Adult Education Graduation, where 41 adults were celebrated for completing programs that aim to bolster the city's workforce and enhance the quality of early childhood education, as reported by the official Nashville government website. Presiding over the ceremony, which took place at Trevecca Nazarene University Campus's Community Church Building, were Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell and MAC's Executive Director, Jamekia Bies.
Among the graduates were 21 preschool teachers who completed over 400 hours of coursework and practical training to earn the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, qualifying them for assistant teacher roles. These educators continue to refine their skills through the agency's Head Start program, which serves more than 1,200 children in Davidson County. Other graduates received high school equivalency diplomas and Information Technology credentials, celebrating their achievements in a formal cap-and-gown ceremony.
MAC's Head Start program boasts a reputation for exceeding national benchmarks for emotional support and effective classroom observation, making it a model of excellence in mental health practices and creating safe learning environments for children, according to a statement from the Nashville government.
These educational achievements benefit more than the individual. Tech-oriented graduates with CompTIA A+ certifications gain a head start in Nashville's growing economy, while earning a high school equivalency diploma opens doors to further education and career opportunities.
