A Nashville man is now in custody facing multiple charges after a shooting incident linked to what police believe was an illegal drug deal gone awry. Vontrell McKethan, 23, was apprehended by detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division on the afternoon of Thursday, as per a release from the Metro Nashville Police Department. He is now facing charges that include aggravated robbery, theft of a firearm, and being a felon in possession of a gun.

The arrest is connected to an October 30 shooting at 470 Arbor Ridge Drive, where a 21-year-old man was shot in the calf. Police report that McKethan was identified by the Non-Lethal Shooting Unit as the shooter during an attempted narcotics transaction. He allegedly retrieved a gun from his vehicle and demanded the victim’s belongings, resulting in the shooting.

The weapon used in the shooting was reported stolen, adding theft of a firearm to McKethan’s charges. Officials say his criminal history includes prior felony convictions for aggravated robbery, auto burglary, and theft of property in Sumner County.

McKethan is being held on a $300,000 bond. The shooting victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery. McKethan awaits further court proceedings.
