As locals in New Orleans and the surrounding regions wake up to reduced visibility, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Dense Fog Advisory stretching across southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. According to the National Weather Service, this dense fog is expected to produce visibility of a quarter mile or less, making driving conditions particularly hazardous.
The advisory, which goes into effect from 10 PM this evening to 11 AM CST Wednesday, covers a broad array of communities, including New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and stretches to the Gulf Coast. If driving, residents are encouraged to slow down, "use your low beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you," as mentioned in the National Weather Service message. This is not the time for haste, when a blanket of fog cloaks the roads, hiding the path ahead.
Today will be mild, with highs around 74 degrees. Patchy fog in the morning will clear, leading to sunny skies. Tonight, clouds will increase and dense fog is expected after 2 a.m. The fog may last into Wednesday morning before clearing, with skies becoming mostly cloudy and then gradually sunnier, as noted by the National Weather Service.
Christmas Day will be mild, with partly sunny skies and a high near 72 degrees. Winds will be light, turning south around 5 mph. The weekend ahead looks mostly sunny and warm, with highs in the mid-70s. There’s a small chance of showers on Sunday, but overall the weather should stay pleasant, as per the National Weather Service.
