In light of the pressing need for affordable senior housing, Miami-Dade County is marking a positive stride with the inauguration of the Oasis at Aventura. This new development is a dedicated affordable housing complex designed to serve the senior population. According to the official press release, the ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated to take place on December 10, bringing 95 units into the market for income-qualifying residents aged 62 and older.
Located at 18700 NE 25 Avenue in Aventura, the Oasis at Aventura stands as a beacon of provision, catering to seniors who earn below 25%, 33%, and 60% of the area median income (AMI). The initiative welcomes those with Section 8 vouchers, providing a range of one- to three-bedroom apartments. Each unit is part of an eight-story building, equipped with amenities aimed at promoting a comfortable and active lifestyle among its residents. Tenants will have access to a community room, a fitness center, and even a library, among other features.
The project's funding includes a sizeable $2,375,000 in SURTAX contributions from the Miami-Dade County Department of Housing and Community Development. The development not only addresses the challenges of affordable senior housing but also reflects a commitment by the local government and the Housing Trust Group to bolster community welfare. Matthew Rieger, President and CEO of the Housing Trust Group, along with Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, are among the key figures expected to grace the ribbon-cutting event.
Starting at noon on the upcoming December 10, the ceremony will unveil the Oasis at Aventura, which is located in District 4, represented by Commissioner Micky Steinberg. Both city officials and Housing Trust Group executives have expressed their anticipation of the project's completion and the positive impact it's expected to make. Alonzo Mourning, HTG Director of AM Affordable Housing, has been particularly vocal about the development's role in mitigating the senior housing crisis in the area.
