The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is actively seeking public input on several transportation improvement projects slated for the Dayton area. According to the ODOT's District 7 announcement, residents are invited to attend a stakeholder meeting to discuss and comment on the projects in question on January 21, 2026, at 4303 West Third Street.
One of the key projects under review is the Gettysburg Avenue Phase 3 Improvements, with the city planning to reconstruct Gettysburg Avenue between West Second Street and Hoover Avenue. The update will see the current traffic signals at the intersections of Gettysburg Avenue & West Second Street and Gettysburg Avenue & Oakridge Drive to be removed, due to federal-aid project conditions that the intersections do not meet. Replacement with stop signs is the proposed solution. Interested parties can quickly share their thoughts at the public meeting or direct their comments to Jared Steege at ODOT by January 31, 2026.
Furthermore, the Miami Conservancy District proposes a resurfacing project for the Stillwater River Recreation Trail, addressing the trail's current deterioration. This project aims not only to renew the trail's surface but also to enhance it with new amenities like bench swings, dog waste stations, and historical markers. This initiative is expected to begin in the spring of 2028 and should take approximately three months to complete, as revealed on the ODOT PROJECTS page.
The City of Dayton, in collaboration with ODOT, will also undoubtedly embark on the West Third Street Safety Improvements project. This safety overhaul, aimed to kick off in Fall 2027, will transform West Third Street from five lanes down to three, along with the addition of a parking lane and cycle track, hopefully to better accommodate a variety of travelers and promote safer travel speeds along this busy corridor.
Public participation in these matters is urged without discrimination based on race, color, sex, age, national origin, or disability. For those wishing to voice opinions or concerns on the above projects, Jared Steege is available at 937-497-6847 or via email at [email protected] to receive comments. It is a chance for residents to directly influence the infrastructural decisions that will shape their daily commutes and recreational spaces in the years to come.
