West Palm Beach has witnessed a significant victory in its ongoing battle against drug trafficking with the completion of "Operation Old School." In a substantial multi-agency collaboration spanning two years, local law enforcement, alongside county, state, and federal partners, successfully dismantled a major narcotics organization. According to CBS12, the West Palm Beach Police Department and their Special Investigations Division spearheaded the effort, which initially began due to a spike in fentanyl-related overdose deaths in June 2023.

The extensive investigation, bolstered by funding from the SAFE Grant, led to the arrest of eight key figures within the criminal enterprise on charges of Racketeering and Conspiracy to Commit Racketeering (RICO), as CBS12 reported. An additional 25 individuals face various felony charges, linked to narcotics sales, obstruction, and weapons violations, after detectives managed to untangle the hierarchy of the organization, identifying not only its leaders but also numerous street-level dealers.

The culmination of this investigation witnessed law enforcement executing 13 simultaneous search warrants on Monday, resulting in the seizure of significant quantities of drugs and contraband. According to details obtained by WPBF, the items confiscated included nearly $179,000 in cash, nine handguns, and drugs ranging from fentanyl and methamphetamine to cocaine and marijuana.

Amidst the recovery of these illicit substances and assets, Palm Beach County State Attorney Alexcia Cox emphasized the relief this operation would bring to the community, stating, "Today, that operation has been shut down. Residents, families and business owners begin to get their neighborhood back. We make it clear that no neighborhood in this county will be left to fend for itself," as told to WPBF. The West Palm Beach Chief of Police Tony Araujo echoed this sentiment, reminding dealers that the community's efforts to rid the area of narcotics are vigilant and ongoing.

The West Palm Beach Police Department is urging residents to maintain their vigilance and report any suspicious drug-related activities. Further updates are expected to be communicated following the press conference.
