In a display of courage and professional valour, the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office recently commended several members of its team, alongside local dispatchers and a brave young citizen for their roles in de-escalating a life-threatening domestic violence incident. According to a Facebook post from the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office, the turmoil began with a 911 call from a child reporting the incident on October 24.
The child's intelligent call set into motion a rapid response coordinated by multiple dispatchers. Grafton Police Sergeant Eernisse and Officer Brock were on the scene promptly ensuring the child's safety and confronting the danger. Gunfire rang out as they entered the residence, but they managed a strategic withdrawal, issuing commands which led to the suspect's secure apprehension without additional injury. Accompanying this news, "Throughout this extremely dangerous incident, all first responders remained calm, professional, and focused on protecting life," said the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office in their post.
For their initiative and bravery, Sergeant Eernisse and Officer Brock received the Sheriff's Office Gold Coin of Excellence. A Life-Saving Award found its way to Detectives Ganey and Gierach, and Deputies Tracy and Chang, recognized for their critical medical interventions. Assistant Chief Karpinski of Graton's Police was commended with the Sheriff's Office Bronze Coin for his leadership during the medical emergency, while a Certificate of Excellence was extended to Dispatchers Schwalbe, Krause, Houpt, and Medinger for their collaborative efforts, as per the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office.
The incident brought to light not only the professional mettle of the law enforcement and emergency services but also the unassuming bravery of civilians caught in crisis. The victim's daughter was honored with the Sheriff's Office Citizen's Appreciation Coin, her clarity and quick action pivotal in the day's resolution.
