Authorities have detained 41-year-old Jason A. Norwest of Portland, charging him with Murder in the Second Degree (Domestic Violence) and Unlawful Use of a Weapon, following the fatal stabbing of a woman in the Hazelwood neighborhood. According to the Portland Police Bureau's press release, Norwest was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center as the investigation continued.
On the morning of Saturday, Portland Police from the East Precinct responded at 6:13 a.m. to a reported disturbance at an apartment on the 12600 block of Southeast Stark Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased woman who had reportedly been stabbed. A man was detained at the scene, and authorities say they are not currently seeking any additional suspects.
The identity of the victim and the definitive cause and manner of her death are awaiting the results of an autopsy by the medical examiner, with the commitment to notify the family first. Meanwhile, detectives with the Portland Police Homicide Unit took over the scene to thoroughly investigate what transpired in the apartment that fateful day. As the investigation took shape, Southeast Stark Street was partially closed, with traffic being carefully managed to contend with the lane closures between Southeast 125th and 126th Avenues, according to the same press release.
Police are urging anyone who may possess information that could aid in the investigation, and who has not already spoken with the authorities, to reach out. The call for public assistance came in the announcement requesting individuals to email [email protected] or call 503-823-0479, with the prompt to reference case number 25-347614. The investigation, inexorably moving forward, hangs on the cooperation of the community and the diligence of the detectives involved.
