Early Tuesday in the pre-dawn hours on Chicago’s South Side, a man was found dead in the Jeffery Manor neighborhood after an apparent shooting, turning a quiet stretch of morning into an active police investigation. Authorities have not yet released his identity.
Where it happened
Officers were called around 6:21 a.m. to the 1600 block of East 95th Street near Stony Island Avenue, where they found the man unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the back, according to CBS Chicago. Calumet Area detectives are leading the investigation, the outlet reported.

The Chicago Sun-Times placed the scene in neighboring South Deering and reported a similar timeline, adding that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene and that “no one was in custody” as detectives work to identify a suspect.
