The spirit of Thanksgiving took on a communal warmth as the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office's Senior Citizens Awareness Network (SCAN) gathered at Lane Agri-Park for a festive luncheon complete with the traditional trimmings and bingo entertainment. As reported by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office on social media, these events provide elderly community members with not just a meal but also company and comfort.
Last Wednesday, seniors gathered at Lane Agri-Park to enjoy a festive meal of turkey and donated desserts, while also engaging in conversations. Organizers highlighted the crucial role of volunteers, who prepared to-go plates to extend the celebration beyond the event. Many of the attendees, older citizens facing circumstances that can make the holiday season especially lonely, expressed gratitude for the initiative.
The program relies entirely on donations, reflecting the generosity of supporters such as The Alley on Main restaurant and the Property Management Association of Rutherford County. Their contributions go beyond sponsorship, fostering a sense of community care. SCAN, as highlighted on the Sheriff’s Office social media, exemplifies a commitment to seniors, offering check-ins, phone calls, and a variety of support services to uphold the dignity and well-being of citizens aged 55 and older.
