Residents of Salt Lake City should expect a shift in weather patterns, starting with today's sunny skies and a high of 39 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. As the city wakes up to clear views and a crisp 27 degrees, calm winds will persist into the evening, allowing temperatures to dip to around 27 degrees overnight.
However, the calm is forecast to be abruptly followed by snow. The NWS has reported that snow is likely before 2 pm on Tuesday, combined with a possibility of rain in the afternoon. Although accumulation is expected to be minimal, the chance of precipitation sits at 60%. Temperatures will climb slightly, reaching up to 43 degrees with a south wind easing in at about 5 mph.
Tuesday night's weather will bring rain and snow, transitioning to all snow after 2 am. The low for the night is predicted to be around 30 degrees, and the chance of precipitation rises to 70%. Less than a half inch of new snow accumulation is projected. Wednesday's forecast indicates a lingering 30 percent chance of snow before 11 a.m., with skies clearing up later in the day as the high nears 39.
Looking ahead to Thursday through Sunday, the city should expect partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies with nighttime lows hovering in the mid-20s to low 30s. Chances of snow and rain will persist, particularly Friday night into Saturday with cloudy conditions leading to a mix of rain and snow. The upcoming weekend's temperatures are slated to reach highs in the mid-40s and a continued chance of mixed precipitation. Salt Lake City residents are advised to prepare to navigate potentially slick and variable driving conditions during this period.
