Progress on the Upper Mill Creek Canyon Road Improvement Project is hitting its stride as Salt Lake County Regional Development takes stock of the year's achievements before the winter slowdown. Work on the ambitious project has reached about a 50 percent completion mark, with substantial developments along the corridor. As crews take a break for the colder months, the county celebrates various milestones that have been met.
Significant strides include the completion of all major culverts, except for the White Bridge, which is now at the halfway mark. Road grading has made identical progress, alongside the completion of soil nail walls, a key element in stabilizing the area, awaiting their decorative finish, which is set for the next year. The Alexander Parking Lot, too, has seen extensive work, fully graded and mostly enveloped by the new rock wall construction.
Around a quarter of the new drainage pipes have been installed, according to a social media post from the Salt Lake County Regional Development. Furthermore, three-quarters of the protective rock stream embankments have been put into place to safeguard the canyon's waterways, highlighting a dedicated effort to preserve the natural environment.
While the project prepares to pause for the winter season, officials are looking forward to resuming and riding the momentum in 2026. "Thank you to our project partners, contractors, and canyon users for your patience and support throughout such a big construction year," reads the statement from the Salt Lake County Regional Development. "We're excited for everything ahead in 2026 and grateful for the momentum we're carrying into next season."
