San Francisco's District Attorney Brooke Jenkins confirmed the conviction of 39-year-old Letumu Eneliko on charges of battery, after a unanimous jury trial. This verdict arrives as the city grapples with concerns over street violence. In a statement obtained by the District Attorney's Office, Jenkins expressed gratitude toward the jury and emphasized that violence has no place in the local community, stating, "This conviction holds Mr. Eneliko accountable and makes clear that there is no place for violence in our community."
On the night of May 23, in the vicinity of a bustling SOMA nightclub, Eneliko assaulted a woman who attempted to intervene as he chased and threatened another group of women. Fleeing to their vehicle, the other women secured themselves inside and promptly alerted police. San Francisco Police officers swiftly responded, apprehending Eneliko two blocks from the scene. During the trial, these details surfaced, painting a clear picture of the altercation that was promptly brought to a halt thanks to the police's quick action.
Assistant District Attorney Samantha Zurcher led the prosecution of the case, supported by a team of legal and technical staff. Zurcher, in a statement released by the District Attorney's Office, thanked the jury for their deliberation and reiterated the city's stance against such assaults, declaring, "Violence against women has no place in our city. This verdict reaffirms that the people of San Francisco will not tolerate unlawful violence in our streets, our nightclubs, or anywhere else."
