
Chaos erupted at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital when a patient unleashed violence upon a social worker, prompting swift action from on-site security. According to a social media post from the SF Sheriff’s Office, the attack occurred at approximately 1:30 PM on Ward 86. Hospital staff had previously sought additional security for a doctor who had received threats. Yet, it was a 31-year-old UCSF social worker who sustained multiple stab wounds, including critical injuries to the neck and shoulder.

Daniel Lurie expressed his concern over the incident on social media. "It’s deeply upsetting to have a frontline worker injured while doing their job serving our city," Daniel Lurie stated. He highlighted the bravery and dedication of social workers, as well as the importance of ensuring their safety. His sentiments also included gratitude towards the first responders and the hospital staff for their swift response to the crisis.
The suspect, a 35-year-old male who was at the hospital for a scheduled appointment, was restrained by a sheriff's deputy who intervened during the commotion in the hallway. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene after deputies recovered a five-inch kitchen knife believed to be integral in the assault.
