A devastating incident in San Marcos has local law enforcement and the community seeking answers after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle last Saturday. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 34-year-old Benjamin Lo Cicero and the driver of the maroon Ford F-150 as 54-year-old Daniel Vega. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, Vega was arrested for driving under the influence, an arrest that officials note is not directly related to the cause of the collision.
The tragedy unfolded at approximately 11:41 PM along the 900 block of W. San Marcos Boulevard, where Lo Cicero was found in the westbound lanes. Emergency crews declared the victim deceased by 11:58 PM. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the authorities who arrived. A detail that stands out in the preliminary reports from FOX5 San Diego is that despite life-saving efforts by paramedics and deputies, Lo Cicero's life could not be saved.
The San Marcos Sheriff's Station Traffic Unit is earnestly investigating the accident, looking into the circumstances leading up to Lo Cicero's death and Vega's actions on the road that night. Anyone with pertinent information is encouraged to contact the San Marcos Sheriff's Station at (760) 510-5200.
