A South Austin crash that started as a typical Friday evening commute has turned into a major hit-and-run investigation, after a moped rider was left seriously injured and two drivers allegedly took off without stopping.
Austin police say the rider was rushed to a hospital with severe injuries, and now they are asking the public to help track down the two vehicles they believe were involved.
What investigators say
According to KVUE, the crash happened last Friday evening in the 700 block of West William Cannon Drive and drew responses from APD, the Austin Fire Department, and ATCEMS. First responders found the moped rider with serious injuries, then transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
Detectives say they are now focused on two separate vehicles they believe were part of the collision and left the scene.
Suspect vehicle details
Investigators told FOX7 Austin they think a dark-colored pickup, possibly a 2015–2022 Chevrolet Colorado with a bed cover, first struck the moped operator. While the rider was on the ground, a silver sedan then ran over the person.
Police say the pickup was driven by a woman, and the silver sedan was driven by a man. According to investigators, neither driver stopped to help, and the pickup is expected to have front-right damage.
Detectives have released images of both vehicles and are asking anyone who recognizes them to come forward.
