
Yesterday, the San Mateo Police Department arrested a 40-year-old South San Francisco resident, Valissa Guzman Lopez, after she was caught allegedly committing multiple acts of vandalism and theft. According to a social media post by the San Mateo Police Department, authorities responded to a report of a suspicious person at the Hillsdale Mall at around 5:16 AM, discovering that multiple vehicles had been vandalized in the parking lot.
Investigators found that Lopez had not only damaged vehicles but also entered one through a shattered window to steal items, then proceeded to enter the closed mall unlawfully. Inside, she located a bicycle and several cell phones in the security's lost and found, attempting to leave the premises with the stolen goods, the police said she was apprehended before she could flee on the purloined bicycle, the officials found her in possession of the cell phones upon detention.
Lopez is now facing charges for second-degree burglary from a motor vehicle, second-degree burglary, and felony vandalism, and according to the San Mateo Police Department's report, she was subsequently taken to San Mateo County Jail for booking.
