An early morning drive in South Shore ended with a car stuck in front of a building after a violent crash on Chicago's South Side, police said.
According to Chicago police, a woman was heading north around 1:20 a.m. Saturday on the 7800-block of South Exchange Street, when officers say she was speeding, jumped a curb, and slammed into the structure. The vehicle became lodged in the façade and drew a response from both police and EMS, ABC7 Chicago reported.
The driver was injured in the crash and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was expected to be OK, police said. A female passenger in the car refused medical treatment at the scene. Citations related to the incident were pending, according to police.
Hospital Transport
Chicago police said the driver was transported to UChicago Medicine's main campus on the South Side for evaluation. The University of Chicago Medical Center serves as a major referral hospital on the South Side and provides emergency and specialty care for patients who arrive after serious collisions, according to UChicago Medicine.
Police Investigating
Officers said they are still working to determine exactly what led up to the crash. Chicago police noted that citations were pending but did not immediately release additional information about the driver, the passenger or anyone who might have been inside the building. The investigation remained active into Saturday morning.
