As the holidays are upon us, residents in West Allis should be aware of schedule changes impacting garbage and recycling collection, alongside various city facility closures. According to an announcement on the City of West Allis official website, during the weeks of Christmas and New Year's Day, the rhythm of refuse removal will skip a few beats—homes that revel in the festive season will need to adjust their waste disposal calendars.
Despite the altered schedule, the city's waste collection crews will either work ahead or play catch-up due to the shortened work weeks. Keen on keeping the neighborhoods clean, while your holiday decor brightens your homes, the city has provided a detailed chart for residents to know when to drag their bins to the curb. The chart from the City of West Allis website advises that if the garbage and recycling are not picked up on the first adjusted date, they will be collected the following day:
Regular Pick-Up Date → Adjusted Pick-Up Date
Monday, Dec. 22 → Monday, Dec. 22
Tuesday, Dec. 23 → Monday, Dec. 22 and/or Tuesday, Dec. 23
Wednesday, Dec. 24 → Tuesday, Dec. 23 and/or Friday, Dec. 26
Thursday, Dec. 25 → Friday, Dec. 26 and or Saturday, Dec. 27
Friday, Dec. 26 → Saturday, Dec. 27
Monday, Dec. 29 → Monday, Dec. 29
Tuesday, Dec. 30 → Monday, Dec. 29 and/or Tuesday, Dec. 30
Wednesday, Dec. 31 → Tuesday, Dec. 30 and/or Wednesday, Dec. 31
Thursday, Jan. 1 → Wednesday, Dec. 31 and/or Friday, Jan. 2
Friday, Jan. 2 → Friday, Jan. 2
In an effort to improve communication and keep residents informed of service changes, the City encourages its citizens to stay connected. By downloading the "City of West Allis app," residents can sign up for email and mobile notifications, thus allowing no surprise to catch them unaware when it comes to "Garbage, trash, and recycling" updates.
The holidays also signal a time when city-run facilities will lock their doors, granting the staff respite during these times of cheer. Announced on the City of West Allis website, City Hall along with the Southwest Suburban Health Department, the West Allis Public Library, the West Allis Senior Center, and the Municipal Yard will embrace silence on Dec. 24, Dec. 25, and Jan. 1.
