Residents of West Garfield Park are on high alert following a disturbing crime that occurred in the early hours of December 20th. An 18-year-old woman was a victim of an aggravated criminal sexual abuse incident as she was walking home. According to the Chicago Police Department, an unknown assailant attacked her from behind, forced her to the ground, and committed sexual abuse before robbing her.
The crime took place on the 4700 Block of W. Adams St., around midnight. The Chicago Police have issued an alert describing the suspect as a male African American with a slender build, last seen wearing a black winter hat and a tan/brown cloth jacket. The authorities are urging the community to maintain vigilance and not hesitate to report any suspicious activity by dialing 9-1-1. They strongly advise against trying to personally pursue a fleeing assailant and recommend instead providing all information to the police.
As an added precaution, the police suggest that community members should always be aware of their surroundings and consider walking in pairs or groups, especially at night. Such measures can sometimes help to deter potential offenders and can ensure a measure of safety in numbers for residents.
