Yesterday, the city of Westfield took a significant step toward reshaping its downtown landscape with a groundbreaking ceremony for the Grand on Main, a $105 million mixed-use development. This project, according to Mayor Scott Willis, is expected to usher in an era of increased energy, density, and walkability, setting "the tone for the future of our downtown" as he put it in a statement obtained by WTHR. Grand on Main, poised between State Road 32 and Jersey Street, east of U.S. 31, is set to feature 216 upscale apartments, and over 60,000 square feet of retail and office space, aiming to transform the area into a vibrant and connected community.

The ambitious development is a collaborative undertaking between BW Development, Indianapolis-based BW Construction, and national firm Skender. Among the amenities anticipated for Grand on Main are three rooftop plazas, work-from-home suites, a golf simulator, a cold plunge and sauna, a resort-style pool, and a public plaza with an art installation paying tribute to the underground railroad in partnership with GANGGANG, as reported by WTHR. A notable aspect of the project is the public–private partnership with the City of Westfield, which includes TIF support for constructing a new 575-space parking garage. The Westfield City Council gave its final approval on July 28, following the project's initial introduction as Jersey 32 at a council meeting on May 27, and Westfield will issue $16 million in economic development bonds for 25 years for this purpose.

Not only is the project seen as a boon for the city's current residents, Brad Battin, President of BW Development, highlighted the growth-oriented strategy behind Grand on Main, "We're proud to break ground on a project that reflects where Westfield is headed," he told The Reporter. Brian Simons, Skender President based in Indiana, expressed personal enthusiasm for the development. In remarks he made to The Reporter, Simons said, "Today marks more than a groundbreaking, it marks the continuation of a vision that Mayor Willis and I first outlined in 2023 when we committed to establishing our office in Westfield."

News of Skender's inclusion in the project was first reported in September, bringing additional expertise to the venture and marking an integral partnership as stated by WISH-TV. With a public opening projected for late 2027, Westfield residents can look forward to a downtown area that, when paired with the surrounding cultural district, and the Grand Junction Plaza's link.
