As the calendar flipped to 2026, Metro Atlanta celebrated the arrival of its first New Year's babies, bringing a dash of joy to various families across the region. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that Piedmont Atlanta heralded its first newborn precisely at the stroke of midnight, with parents Taisha McKinney and Donté Sewell welcoming their daughter, Zenya Sewell, into the world.
Following closely in the wee hours, Piedmont Fayette Hospital saw the Cook family grow by one. Danya and Dakota Cook's fourth daughter, Dakota Saige, arrived at 12:36 a.m., reported 11Alive, while their newborn weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces, adding a new bundle of joy to their family dynamics already shaped by their three preceding girls.
In Athens, Zantavia Armstead gave birth to a baby boy, Zahkari Nymir Hardy, who weighed 7 pounds and 2 ounces and was born at 12:41 a.m., as noted in the 11Alive article. In tandem, another celebration took place in Columbus, welcoming Solani Alaina Williams, the first child for Destini Harper and Clyde Williams, at 1:04 a.m., tipping the scales at 6 pounds and 4 ounces.
Emory Healthcare was also decked with new beginnings. Morgan, having just welcomed her daughter Naomi into the world exactly as the New Year's ball dropped, marveled at the 7-pound 0.9-ounce miracle, reported FOX 5 Atlanta. At another Emory facility, Shamease, a labor and delivery nurse herself and fittingly at the hospital where she works, Emory Johns Creek, said the early arrival of her child Taylor, who weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces, at 3:21 a.m. was a "great way to start the year."
Local parents welcomed into the new year with gifts and plaques from their hospitals. FOX 5 Atlanta joins in congratulating them, wishing health, happiness, and joy as their families grow.
